The Eccentric Club Events

The Eccentric Club regularly organises convivial meetings and dinners for its members in a number of outstanding venues across central London. The location for each event often remains a secret until the day before it - in order to avoid some guests and visitors tempted by dining at the prestigious venues welcoming us rather than being interested in our club.

Most of the events include light entertainment provided by the members. We rarely hold more than 1-2 events a month, and we hold no events in July due to a great number of the third-party events we traditionally support and attend every year.

Our cultural events include evenings of poetry or poetic contests, cigar evenings, talks, tastings, close-up magic demonstrations, operatic performances and art exhibitions. Once, in 2010, we even held an eccentric fashion show, but it did not turn into an annual event, though a number of fashion designers and milliners are among our club members.
In not-too-distant years, the club was well known for its 'Sports and Celebrity Dinners', snooker and billiards competitions, golfing activities in London and trips to Belgium, South Africa and New Zealand, angling achievements and regular participation in Derby and other racing events.

Even earlier, in the 1890s-1950s, it was also famous for its pugilists and other professional sportsmen (some of whom also belonged to the National Sporting Club). Many members were and are automobile and yacht enthusiasts. Some even collect amphibian vehicles!

Our members are visiting Derby and Ascot these days, but not quite in the same capacity as before. Some keenly participate in Henley Regatta and Festival, Thames Traditional Boat Festival, and cricket tournaments, although our club cricket team has not played together for more than a year (yet in the past, it celebrated a singular and rather eccentric victory over the Carlton Club Cricket Team!).
Like any other club, we also hold Club Anniversary and Christmas Dinner. In the past, occasionally, we were privileged to dine in the company of our patron, the Duke of Edinburgh. We hope to renew this as soon as we find a new suitable patron. All the events are accessible to club members in good standing and their guests.

It is also a long-standing tradition for our club to hold a variety of charitable events that are more open to the general public. These include our famous Annual Friday 13th Dinner and The Greatest British Eccentric of the Year contest and award ceremony.
